Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma
One-Time Requirement: Nurses licensed on or after July 15, 2010 must receive the education within three (3) years of their initial licensure date. The course can be offered by any approved CE provider. This course was included in the curriculum for graduates of Kentucky programs of nursing as of December 2011. These hours may count as part of the required 14 contact hours of CE needed for licensure renewal

Domestic Violence/Dependent Abuse
One-Time Requirement: Nurses seeking reinstatement, licensure by endorsement from another state, and examination candidates educated outside of Kentucky must earn three (3) contact hours of KBN approved domestic violence CE within three (3) years of licensure into Kentucky. This course was included in the curriculum for graduates of Kentucky Programs of Nursing as of May 1998. These hours may count as part of the required 14 contact hours of CE needed for licensure renewal

Pain Management
APRNs with a CAPA-CS are required to earn one and one-half (1.5) approved CE contact hours on the use of KASPER, pain management, or addiction disorders. These hours may count as part of the required five (5) pharmacology contact hours.

Pharmacology
APRNs are required to earn five (5) contact hours of approved CE in pharmacology each earning period. The licensure period is November 1 through October 31 of the renewal year. In 2008, the regulation was amended to reflect that pharmacology CE hours can be earned from any provider that is recognized by your APRN accrediting body. It is the responsibility of the individual APRN to contact the certifying body for a complete and up-to-date list of recognized providers for their organization.

Suicide Prevention/Assessment/Treatment/Management
Nurses must earn a minimum of two (2) contact hours on the subject of suicide prevention, which must consist of one (1) contact hour on suicide prevention generally, and one (1) contact hour that addresses: 1. Chronic toxic stress and secondary traumatic stress potentially increasing the incidence of suicide amongst nurses; 2. A confidential and standardized pathway to care for nurses that addresses screening, assessing, safety planning, referrals, and follow-up for nurses at risk for suicide; 3. Systems of care, evidence-informed approaches, and best practices to reduce suicide rates; and 4. Ethical legal considerations of caring for patients and nurses who are suicidal.

Cultural Competency/Diversity
Nurses must earn a minimum of one and one-half (1.5) contact hours in implicit bias that addresses: 1. The impact of historical racism and other forms of invidious discrimination on the provision of healthcare; 2. Methods of evaluating the presence and extent of implicit bias; and 3. Measures that may be taken to reduce implicit bias.

Alzheimer/Dementia
One-Time Requirement: Nurses actively licensed as of July 15, 2024, must complete this requirement by October 31, 2027. Nurses actively licensed after July 15, 2024, must complete this requirement within 3 years of initial licensure as described in 201 KAR 20:215. The 1-hour in Alzheimer's Disease or other forms of Dementia training must be completed. The following topics must be covered: 1) The warning signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia; 2) The importance of early detection, diagnosis, and appropriate communication techniques for discussion of memory concerns with the patient and his or her caregiver; 3) The variety of tools used to assess a patient’s cognition; and 4) Current treatments that may be available to the patient.
