Nursing Practice Act/ Rules Florida Laws and Rules will be due beginning with the biennium expiring 2015. See course REL-SC-0-FL-AOFBONNP, An Overview of the Florida Board of Nursing and Nursing Practice.
Each two (2) hour laws and rules course composed of current content on Chapters 456 and 464 of the Florida Statutes and the rules in Title 64B9 of the Florida Administrative Code is approved by the Board. | 2 | 2 years |
Patient Safety/Medical Errors and Prevention Must be board approved. Medical Errors Prevention
Shall include at a minimum the following subject areas:
(a) Factors that impact the occurrence of medical errors,
(b) Recognizing error-prone situations,
(c) Processes to improve patient outcomes,
(d) Responsibilities for reporting,
(e) Safety needs of special populations,
(f) Public education.

Domestic Violence/Dependent Abuse Must be board approved. Domestic Violence is required every third biennium and the hours are in addition to the 24 hours required for renewal. | 2 | 6 years |
HIV/AIDS One-Time Requirement: Must be board approved.
Each person shall be required by the appropriate board to complete no later than upon first renewal a continuing educational course, approved by the board, on human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome as part of biennial relicensure or recertification. The course shall consist of education on the modes of transmission, infection control procedures, clinical management, and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immune deficiency syndrome. Such course shall include information on current Florida law on acquired immune deficiency syndrome and its impact on testing, confidentiality of test results, treatment of patients, and any protocols and procedures applicable to human immunodeficiency virus counseling and testing, reporting, the offering of HIV testing to pregnant women.

Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace The two (2) hour CE requirement for the Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace course must be completed every other biennium.
Each course on recognizing impairment in the workplace shall include, at a minimum, the following subject areas:
(1) Identifying the signs of impairment in the workplace;
(2) Employer initiatives to promote safety and provide assistance;
(3) The essential steps to make a report or referral;
(4) Mandatory reporting law, Section 464.018, F.S.;
(5) Treatment programs for impaired practitioners, Section 456.076, F.S.; and,

Opioids and Controlled Substances Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) certified under S. 464.012, F.S. All ARNPs must now complete at least three (3) hours of continuing education on the safe and effective prescription of controlled substances for each biennial renewal. | 3 | 2 years |
