Nurse Delegation in the Community Care Environment
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the learner with the State’s Self-Directed Care and the Nurse Delegation program. It is important for the learner to understand what care tasks are allowed by his or her individual certifications or licensures. There are specific care tasks that can and cannot be provided to a client by an Individual Provider, nursing assistant certified or nursing assistants-Registered or a home care aide in the community living environment. Self-Directed Care tasks are determined by the client. Nurse Delegation care task occur once either type of nursing assistant or home care aide has completed the Nurse Delegation certification. It is important to understand that providing care tasks outside of your scope of practice, certification, or licensure level is a violation of the law and can result is disciplinary action by the State of Washington.

Instructor: Holly Carlson, MS, RN, CCRN
Holly Carlson, MS, RN, CCRN, was a subject matter expert for Relias. She has 25 years of healthcare experience in both acute and post-acute healthcare environments. Her experience includes leadership and management across the healthcare spectrum. She has owned and operated an assisted living business. Carlson's clinical practice includes acute care, long-term acute care, home health and hospice. Carlson has served for over a decade in various board positions for State Nursing Associations, including president. She has been a nurse planner for multiple continuing education events and has experience as a leader in the design and implementation of an ANCC-CNE accredited approver unit for a multi-state nursing consortium. Carlson is certified as Critical Care Registered Nurse.
