Nervous System: Skull, Brain, and Meninges Procedures

The Nervous System subsection of the Surgery section of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set lists procedures anatomically, starting with the skull, meninges, and brain. The procedures listed in this section include techniques used to access the skull, the meninges around the brain, and the brain's structures. Familiarity with the medical terminology and intracranial and extracranial anatomy will help in correctly reporting these codes.

This course provides an overview of the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on the skull, meninges, and brain. This course also introduces the learner to the format, guidelines, and common modifiers pertaining to these nervous system surgical procedure codes in CPT. A current copy of the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®), Professional Edition is strongly recommended to optimize your understanding of the content covered.
