Subject Matter Expert: Courtney Matrunick, PT, DPT
Courtney Matrunick has always been fascinated by the human body and started her career focused on psychology and exercise science at Elon College. She went on to receive her doctorate in Physical Therapy at Elon University in 2006 and has been a physical therapist for UNC Health Care since 2007. She specializes in the treatment for those with neurological conditions, with a special interest in spinal cord injury, stroke rehabilitation and now Long COVID. She has her certification in aquatic therapy and also provides care and her expertise for the UNC ALS clinic, UNC Wheelchair Clinics and UNC Long COVID Recovery Clinic. She co –chairs the outpatient SCI task force group and is a board member of the NC Spinal Cord Injury Association. She is also an adjunct professor at Elon University in Elon, NC assisting with the education on skills for the neurological rehabilitation module. She has been a part of the UNC COVID Recovery Clinic since its inception and has had the privilege to provide many lectures and community learning webinars to help disperse best practice in treating Long COVID.

Sara considers themself a lifelong learner and holds degrees from Sacred Heart University (MSOT) and Wagner College (BS Psychology) and is a nationally board-certified OT. Graduating in 2018, Sara began their journey as an outpatient occupational therapist focusing on adult neurological and orthopedic conditions and durable medical equipment (DME). Sara’s passion for assistive technologies, specifically wheelchairs, led them to achieve their Assistive Technology Professional specialty certification in 2021. They also went on to become certified in CBIT, a specialty modality for individuals with Tourette’s Syndrome. In addition to DME and Tourette’s Syndrome, Sara is most passionate about their work with individuals experiencing Long COVID, and adolescents and adults with hypermobile spectrum disorder/Ehlers Danlos and dysautonomia.
