Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): Implementation and Ongoing Assessment in Adults

This course educates speech-language pathologists (SLPs) on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions for adults with complex acquired communication disorders. An overview of AAC systems and strategies is discussed to provide foundational information on the implementation and ongoing assessment of AAC systems, including speech-generating devices (SGDs). An ALS case study allows learners to apply the three-phase intervention model to guide assessment and intervention when communication function is expected to decline.

The goal of this course is to teach SLPs how to apply AAC systems to adults in post-acute care settings.
