Justifiable Aquatic Therapy – Novel Treatment Ideas for Neurological Conditions

Justifiable Aquatic Therapy – Novel Treatment Ideas for Neurological Conditions

0.15 CEUs/$19.00

Live webinar date:  Thursday 7/7/16

Broadcast times:  11 am Central time (Noon Eastern; 10am Mountain; 9am Pacific)

Course Description:

Aquatic therapy has progressed dramatically over the last decade. Treatments in water now often bear little in resemblance to land-based therapy and PT, OT and SLP providers who have not been provided with specialized aquatic therapy training lack a fundamental knowledge of best-practices when working with patients in the water. This training takes a unique instructional approach by using case studies which tackle the needs of the “whole person” through immersed exercise. The learner will leave with novel aquatic treatment ideas taken from the literature and from clinicians across the globe.

Target Audience: SLPs, SLPAs, PTs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs

The case studies used and the research cited support the provision of aquatic services by all three rehab disciplines. This course does not focus on evaluation or examination of the patient and thus, the content is within the scope of practice for the Assistant working under the supervision of the Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech & Language Pathologist.

The material will be presented at an introductory/intermediate educational level. Continuing education hours are being considered for the respective target audience. Certificates will be added as approvals are received.

Webinar Objectives

1. Describe at least 2 evidence-based treatment ideas for the patient with CVA

2. Describe at least 2 evidence-based treatment ideas for the patient with Parkinson’s disease

3. Describe at least 2 evidence-based treatment ideas for the patient with multiple sclerosis

4. Describe at least 2 ways to progress any of these treatment ideas from dependence to independence
